Business Process Outsourcing Hit by Holidays

Just when the time has ripened for the Philippines to assert themselves as a major force in the business process outsourcing sector, we find that they are dogged by internal hassles. The upcoming elections and the falling value for the dollar notwithstanding, call center services in the Philippines look threatened with the increasing number of holidays in the calendar.

It’s not just the planned holidays that is hitting the business process outsourcing industry below the belt. It is also the unplanned ones which interfere in the quality of work. Stalled and delayed projects are poison for a business process outsourcing firm and it is no secret that the powers that be in the Philippines are not happy with the way things are turning out.

This sort of a discrepancy in the promotion of the country as a BPO hub and the actual services offered disrupted by holidays and leaves could spell doom for the nascent BPO sector. These are adding to the costs, instead of cutting it down.

Contact Center Bailed Out!

After bailing out several industries, a contact center is looking to reap the benefits of government initiatives to pump in recovery money. The Department of Tax Credit, Ohio, has approved the credit bid of a contact center, making it possible for them to plan and implement the addition of about 500 call center agents to their employee strength. This move will definitely go a long way in making things easy for an infested contact center sector where business has trickled down due to the global meltdown.

The amount pitched for the contact center is to the tune of $700,000. The Council has also relaxed the tax that is payable to them in the next five years. The tax rebate announced is 40%. This will be against commercial activity and franchise. A member of the Council which met in Columbus to decide this credit felt that this was a trend-setting move to inject resources in an ailing sector.
